Do you have a problem getting the right fit for your clothes? And does the idea of making your own clothes appeal to you? Imagine being able to make clothes that always have the right fit! You can, with the help of wire dress forms. All you need are some innovative designs, a little bit of effort and you can have those well-fitting clothes you’ve always wanted. Take a look at some of these tips on how you can use a dress form effectively to make your own clothes:

  • Accurate measurements are necessary. Use a measuring tape to measure the bust, waist, neck and hips and height. And accurate means, getting the measurements at the widest point like at the hips and waist.
  • Dress forms can be adjusted to match dimensions with a turn of the dials provided. Match the dimensions you have ready, on the wire dress form. If it’s an old fashioned dress form, no need to worry. Use the required padding (you can use cotton batting) needed to get the shape and dimensions right.wire dress forms
  • Use the patterns you’ve decided to use directly on to the wire dress form. Adjust seams by altering the point where they meet. Remember, you have to change the whole pattern if you want to make changes in any one area of the pattern. You will have to move the neckline, collar, button holes and sleeves.
  • Keep making minor adjustments so you get it right. Do up the edges of the dress with a hem stitch on the dress form. Pin up any loose, rough edges at the required length. And voila, you have that perfect fitting dress.
Using a wire dress form ensures you get a good fit. And you won’t have to bother with tiresome alterations later.
