What to Wear This Weekend: Chambray

The sun is beginning to shine and the days are starting to warm up here in Southern California and, while I’m a big fan of jeans (my go-to for most days and a year-round must-have!), denim can sometimes be a little too thick and warm for the sunnier, warmer seasons. So what’s a girl to wear when she can’t bear to part with her denim? Easy. She wears chambray! Lightweight and cool, chambray is an ideal spring fabric and a great alternative to denim. So to get you ready for the warm and sunny days, I’ve chosen my top three chambray picks to wear this weekend – and beyond!

Chambray Dress


While florals and pastels are simply adorable, I usually opt for deeper solids and minimalistic prints (obsessed with stripes!). Chambray’s typically light blue tone makes it ideal for spring and a nice change from the recurring florals and pastels of the season. A simple chambray dress is your new best friend for spring and summer; a great choice for barbecues and picnic parties in the sun! A dress with a clean A-line skirt is flattering on all and can be accessorized beautifully with a statement belt or bib necklace. Wear your chambray dress with a pair of  lace-up oxfords for a sweetheart look, or flat sandals for a carefree stroll through the park.
Chambray Button-Down
Every girl needs a cool and comfortable button-down, and what a better choice than chambray? Chambray tops can be worn alone, or unbuttoned and layered over a tank top (or bikini top for those beach days!). A chambray button-down that is slightly fitted looks great when worn with short, patterned skirts. A fitted mini or ruffled chiffon floral are great choices. If you’re feeling cool and casual, wear your chambray top with a pair of distressed denim shorts, moccasin booties and some boho chic accessories like bangles and long necklaces for a music-festival-ready look. Don’t forget a cool pair of aviator sunglasses!
Chambray Shorts
I love dressy interpretations of a casual fabric! Take chambray up a notch in a different color, like gray, and pair it with chic, polished pieces. A cool pair of gray chambray shorts like these look great when worn with a fitted white button-down, statement necklace and strappy sandals. If you’re feeling bold and sassy, wear these gray shorts with some killer leopard pumps, ribbed tank, 3/4 sleeve cardigan and accessorize with loads of metal bangles and long chain necklaces. Add a great, large black satchel to the mix and you’ll be ready to take on the town!
